We have had a lot of new people visit our websites over the last month, as well as our office in the Los Angeles Area. As a result, we have had several questions about whether Melamed Eye Care Accepts Aetna insurance for the service offered at our company. I am more than happy to tell all the people who visit my blog, or my website for the company, that we do accept Aetna Insurance for your vision care needs.
If you have a standard policy for vision from Aetna insurance, or your company uses Aetna as a TPA (third party administrator) then your typical plan should have vision coverage is for routine eye exams, glasses, and contacts. This type of vision plan takes care of most people’s need for vision care by a Los Angeles Eye Doctor.
If you have an Aetna health care insurance, or PPO insurance, then your plan can cover medical eye visits, red and dry eyes, glaucoma, and other such medically related issues for your eyes. Minor eye injuries, like a corneal abrasion, can also be covered under this type of plan. The big difference here is that the Aetna Vision Plan takes care of the routine things.
If you would like to have more information about Aetna Insurance, and how you can use that with Melamed Eye Care, I invite you to check out our Aetna Insurance Page on Melamed Eye Care.com. Talk to you again soon.
Now is the perfect time to get new contact lenses. With the end of the year fast approaching, it is time to get those cafeteria plan benefits used up. Most plans will give you well into the winter to finish using all your deducted money for this year. Be sure to check with your plan to see when the last date to use benefits paid for in 2010 is.
When you and your eye care professional are discussing contacts, you might want to discuss the Acuvue line of products. These lenses are the most popular and include the top of line in terms of technology, comfort and health.
Another nifty feature is the 1-2-3 that is on the edge of some of the lenses. Soft contacts are pliable, which makes them comfortable. However, if you get one turned inside out it can be difficult to tell. With some of the Acuvue lenses, all you have to do is look at the edge and if the 1-2-3 is readable, then the lens is right side out. It is that simple.
There are several types of Acuvue lenses available to fit almost any eye. The Acuvue Oasys can correct either nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism. The amount of oxygen available to the eye is 98%. The lenses do have UV protection although any prolonged exposure to the sun should be augmented with additional UV blocking sunglasses. Patients typically find this lens to be very comfortable.
Another Acuvue lens available is the new 1 Day TruEye. This lens is made to be worn one day and then thrown away, so it is truly a new pair of lenses every day. And they are the only lens in the US of daily disposable modality that is made of the high oxygen permeability. UV protection is also provided in the TruEye lens. There is no schedule to remember. They can correct either nearsightedness or farsightedness. They also have the Acuvue 1-2-3 mark and the very light tint to allow for ease in handling. To the open eye, they provide 96% of the available oxygen.
Allergy sufferers may want to discuss the 1 Day Acuvue Moist lenses with their eye care provider. These lenses are worn for one day and then discarded. These lenses have the other Acuvue ease of handling features such as the light tint and the 1-2-3 mark. They also have UV protection. Patients report comfort with these lenses that they didn’t enjoy with other lenses with their allergy symptoms.
If you have astigmatism, Acuvue has a lens for that too. And if you are over 40, the new multifocal, Acuvue Oasys for Presbyopia, allows you to wear contact lenses without the need for over reading glasses on top. They will need to be replaced about every two weeks. They come with the visibility tint so they are easy to see in the case. They offer UV protection and the available oxygen to the eye is 97%. They do not have the 1-2-3 mark.
Due to changing IRS laws, you might want to purchase any wetting solutions that you might need in the next month or two before the end of the year if you are using a flex plan. These solutions do have a self life, so you can’t stock up for the entire year. Of course, if you purchase one of the daily lenses, you won’t need the storage solutions.
If you have been contemplating the switch from glasses to contact lenses, now is the perfect time to make that appointment with your eye care professional. If it has been awhile since you have had your prescription changed, you really do need to make that appointment today. Give your self the gift of great eye sight this year.

One of the latest advancements in contact lens technology is multifocal contact lenses. In the past, patients over the age of 40 had trouble with contact lens wear. Either reading glasses were needed to be worn over contacts, or monovision needed to be performed, where one eye is focused for distance, and other eye for near. Monovision, successful for some, has it drawbacks including reduced stereo vision.
The newest line of multifocal contacts including one of many fitted at our office, Acuvue Oasys for Presbyopia, allows patients over 40 to have simultaneous distance, intermediate, and close vision with BOTH eyes. This unique product has been very successful with patients and carries its unique brand of Acuvue Oasys, which is the leading contact lens in the market.
For patients with high astigmatism, in the past multifocal contacts were not an option. But advancements in lenses technology have produced lenses such as Coopervision’s Proclear Multifocal Toric, which can be fit with almost any amount of astigmatism. Proclears also ideal for patients with dry and irritated eyes.
Whether you have tried contacts in the past or curious to how it feels, Dr. Melamed and staff would love to give you a trial run, with no obligation to purchase boxes of contacts, on the newest contact lens design.
1-Day Acuvue TruEye is the world’s FIRST daily disposable contact lens that comes in a new breathable silicone hydrogel material – an cutting edge material saturated with a super smooth wetting agent which does not slow release onto the eye, delivering 98% oxygen flux to the cornea. A Los Angeles eye doctor will be able to provide you with better eye care, thanks to the new product.
Acuvue’s new TruEye contact lenses are truly remarkable as patients will regain incredible white eyes and comfort at the end of the day because the super wet and super smooth surface has the lowest friction coefficient of any daily disposable lens on the market today – even exceeding Acuvue Oasys and 1-Day Moist. This is great news for contact lens wearers experiencing pink eyes after a long day.
What are the Features and Benefits of 1-Day Acuvue TruEye Contacts ?
Acuvue TruEye lenses are made from Narafilcon A, a new silicone hydrogel material that allows for 98% oxygen flux to the cornea, resulting in fewer red and dry eyes – even at the end of a long day.
Featuring Hydraclear technology combining an exceptional wetting agent with oxygen transmitting silicone hydrogel polymers. The result is an outstanding smooth and moist lens.
1-Day Acuvue TruEye contacts have the highest level of UVA and UVB blocking of any daily disposable contact lens with a minimum of 96% UVA and a minimum of 99% UVB blocking.
A 1-2-3 inside-out indicator and the visibility tint support easier handling.
Who should wear 1-Day Acuvue TruEye?
People with higher prescriptions who need more breathable lenses
Patients wanting more comfort with their contact lenses.
A very common question asked from the patient chair is “are contact lenses safe to wear?” The answer depends on several factors. There are always risks to wearing contact lenses, including infections and possible blindness, but these risks are dramatically reduced if a patient follows several guidelines.
There are many types of wearing schedules depending on the brand of contact lenses. There are monthly disposable contact lenses, 2-week disposable, and the ideal being a daily disposable lenses. Daily disposable contact lenses are generally the healthiest, most comfortable, and most convient types of lenses. Normal protein and other substances naturally found in your tears can build up on lenses, creating discomfort and more prone to infection. Dailies also eliminate the use of cleaning solutions which can sometimes irritate the eyes.
But not every one is a candidate for daily disposables. In fact, many patients due to certain eye conditions might be recommended rigid gas permeable contacts instead of soft contacts. Others may not be good candidates for contact lenses at all.
Other factors in determining the safety of contacts include the oxygen permeability of the lenses (or “breathability” of the lenses). Many patients with higher prescriptions or those who fall asleep in their contacts can benefit from these.
Only your optometrist can recommend the best choice of contacts for your eyes. Contact lenses are medical devices and need to be properly fitted not only for good vision, but a proper fit for healthy and comfortable eyes. Yearly contact lens evaluations are a requirement for continued contact lens wear.
